It has been almost 20 years that I have been working with bodies – on and off a yoga mat. And yet, I feel there is still so much to learn. For many years I pretended that this was just a part-time thing while I figured out how to properly make use of my university degree in International Relations and Development. Since having my first child in 2011, I’ve realised that there is no better way I could be contributing to world peace.
Throughout my years of working for NGOs, the United Nations, and a corporate sustainability consultancy I never felt I was really creating any change. Very different to sharing my yoga. Each class I teach, people walk out a little bit more peaceful, a little bit more in tune with themselves and the world around them.
Last week, one lady during a private yoga class said about ten times ‘I can’t.’ Each time, without exception, she ended up mastering the pose we were working with. The glow in her eyes when we finished is what I do what I do for. This change of attitude in ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can’ will resonate ways and beyond your yoga mat – it’s only where the magic starts.
What went on on your mat today that you can take into daily life with you?
